This project introduces a new, critical narrative layer to the exhibition at the Casa di Goethe in Rome, which has remained largely unchanged for the past twenty years. Taking Goethe’s journey to Italy as a point of departure, the work reflects on contemporary questions of travel, cultural exchange, and Europe today. Themes such as overtourism, North–South relations, perceptions of the “other,” economic dimensions of travel, social transformation, and the influence of digital tools are brought into focus. Ecological considerations of travel are also addressed, placing them in dialogue with Goethe’s own example.
The project’s aim was to integrate this multi-perspective approach as a first intervention into the existing exhibition, renewing accessibility and opening up the museum experience to contemporary discourse.
